Meet the Pros

Jim Flory

Originally from Logansport, Indiana, Jim has been the Director of Tennis at the Island Club for over 30 years. He got his tennis career start at the Wildwood Country Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He then wen to Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York before moving to Hilton Head where he was the first Head Pro at the Shipyard Racquet Club. He was the Director of Tennis at Bolongo Bay Beach and Tennis Club in St. Thomas, USVI before returning to Hilton Head and to the Island Club.

Jim is a Charter Member of the Professional Tennis Registry and member of United States Stringers Association. He has coached High School teams and USTA teams.

Emile Dumas

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Emile lived overseas in several different countries due to his father’s American State Department and Diplomatic career.

Emile went on to play tennis at George Mason University but quit to play on the professional circuit in 1981 and 1982.

Having been certified by PTR, PTA and PBI, Emile taught tennis for many tennis facilities in Florida, Maine, Texas, Virginia, California and South Carolina. He taught for Harry Hopman, Peter Burwash and even held the Head Tennis professional position at the Beverly Hills Country Club in Los Angeles, CA. Emile retired that 23 year teaching era in 1993 after holding positions on Hilton Head Island at the Shipyard Racquet Club and South Beach Racquet Club in Sea Pines Plantation.

Since then Emile built and owns a thriving computer business, with more time available, he has stepped back into the tennis world. He has been a tennis pro here at Island Club for over 20 years and is our Head Pro.

Scott Clements

Although Scott may be new to the Island Club Tennis Center, he is certainly not new to Hilton Head Island or to the sport of tennis! He has lived here for over 30 years, is PTR certified and has worked in both tennis management and as a tennis professional with Palmetto Dunes, South Beach Racquet Club, and Vandermere. Throughout his entire career he has participated in competitive play as well. We welcome Scott as the newest member of our Tennis Center Team! He will be overseeing tennis drills, clinics, welcome warm-ups, and is available for private instruction.
